Nueva Evangelización

Catholics Come Home me parece una acertadísima iniciativa dentro del campo de la Nueva Evangelización. En España hay varios pero ésta me parece muy completa: Our Mission Is an independent, non-profit Catholic apostolate that creates effective and compassionate media messages and broadcasts them nationally and internationally, in order to inspire, educate and evangelize inactive Catholics and others, and invite them to live a deeper faith in Jesus Christ, in accord with the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Answering Pope John Paul II’s Call for a “New Evangelization” Our beloved Pope John Paul II continually exhorted the Church to begin a new evangelization. He described modern media as an indispensable means of achieving it. In Ecclesia in America he wrote, “Using the media correctly and competently can lead to a genuine enculturation of the Gospel.”1 Furthermore, he realized that the old methods from the past needed refreshing, stating, “This vital field of action for the Church requires a radical change of mentality, an authentic new awakening of conscience in everyone. New methods are needed, as are new expressions and new courage.”2 Inspired by the Holy Father’s call to a new evangelization, Catholics Come Home reaches out to inactive Catholics using inspiring TV commercials and an interactive Web site. Without pressure or obligation, Catholics Come Home.org offers an opportunity to learn the truth about the Catholic faith in a loving, non-judgmental atmosphere. We offer many resources that aid fallen-away Catholics and non-Catholics to learn more about returning to the Catholic Church. Coming home has never been easier! Why Evangelization is Critically Needed Now Here is the evidence that the need for Catholics Come Home is greater than ever: • In 2005, Catholics accounted for nearly 23 percent (64.8 million) of the U.S. population, yet according to the CARA Catholic Poll (CCP), only 33 percent of U.S. Catholics attend Mass on a weekly basis. That means that approximately 42.7 million U.S. Catholics are not even regular worshipers! Worldwide, nearly 800,000 Catholics do not practice their faith. • The number of Americans identifying themselves as non-religious/secular increased 110 percent from 1990 to 2000. It is now 13.2 percent of the total population.3 Comparing this statistic with the previous one, non-religious-secular individuals outnumber active, Mass-attending Catholics by 58 percent (13.2 percent vs. 7.59 percent). Our culture and society are beginning to reflect this move away from our Christian society. • As many as 100,000 baptized Catholics in the U.S. drift away from Church each year.4 • One-third to one-half of Catholic marriages now ends in divorce.4 • 72 percent of Catholics have not tried to win a convert to Christ.4 • For every four Protestants, there is one convert. For Catholics, the numbers were 250 to one. That is about one convert for every 807 Catholics.4 Catholics Come Home, with your help, is working to bring about a powerful, positive change in our modern secular culture and is inviting thousands all around the country to return to their Catholic faith, through this astounding new evangelization effort.
